Let’s get real. The “us” is actually “me”. I’ve been illustrating, designing, shooting, sculpting, printing, painting, directing (and paddling) for over 20 years. Life could be worse.
My early art school days were smattered with teaching gigs, small illustration jobs, digging plumbing trenches, wrenching on my car on the weekends, visiting art galleries, chasing dreams (and girls) in the city and at the beach, and knocking doors for two of the largest newspapers in Southern California. Maybe that’s where the passionate plunge into print began.
Playbills. Posters. Full-page spreads. Billboards. Glossy magazines. Book stores. Book shops. Book caves with reclusive erudites that knew everything about every codex to ever leave a print house. Magazine racks - windows to other universes - turning open leafy doors to aquariums, sport climbing, fine art in far away locales, the surf spots just around a few corners.
My first long-term creative opportunity, aside from some wonderful short-term experiences, was as a concept illustrator/designer for a toy company called Applause. With a robust creative department, I found myself working with legendary illustrators and sculptors, seasoned soft- and hard-goods designers, outstanding prototypers and creative directors, prolific packaging designers, product managers, production designers, and engineers.
The next shift was as geographic as it was career-wise: video game development in southern Utah. In the middle of seemingly nowhere. After dipping my toes in those waters and post-9/11, I found myself drawn to the textural, the tactile, the physical. I found myself REALLY enjoying designing products for other companies and then being heavily involved in printing and fabrication. Sourcing the final product became just as enjoyable as the creative process.
Along the way, my wife and I started a paddle shop. Initially a family affair, Dig Paddlesports is now a robust seasonal business that employs between 20-30 people each summer.
Let’s chat about your projects. My design rates are competitive, and my pricing for print production (business cards, catalogs, banners, vehicle wraps) and fabrication (sculptural/architectonic/tradeshow booth, etc.) are outstanding. I routinely beat up nationally-known retail print and sign website pricing, primarily because I work with dozens of providers, sources that will ONLY work with resellers like me that understand design and file specifications, sources that give me a tremendous competitive advantage, which allows me to get you the quality you deserve, oftentimes at a rate that is 15%-50% lower than you’ll ever find on your own.
